The Nigerian Navy on Monday commissioned several newly completed infrastructure projects at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Warri, in a bid to improve personnel welfare and operational readiness in the Niger Delta.
Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, unveiled the facilities. They were delivered through a partnership between the Navy and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).
The projects include a 30-room self-contained accommodation block for senior rates, an Executive Officer’s residence, lawn tennis and volleyball courts, and Car Parks 5 and 6. The base also saw upgrades to the administrative block, auditorium, and corps members’ lodge.
Rear Admiral Ibrahim said the projects show the Navy’s commitment to staff welfare, efficiency, and stronger collaboration with strategic partners. He thanked Tantita for sponsoring the accommodation, saying it would make life easier for officers and ratings serving in the oil-producing region.
“The relationship between Tantita and the Nigerian Navy goes a long way because of the need to protect Nigeria’s crude oil infrastructure, which remains critical to the nation’s economy,” he said.
He explained that the Central Naval Command covers several oil-producing states, so working with security stakeholders is necessary to protect national assets and support higher oil production. The new accommodation, he added, will give personnel a better place to rest after demanding operations.
Rear Admiral Ibrahim also praised the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, and the project team for transforming the base. He said the sports facilities and parking areas would promote fitness, teamwork, and better organisation, and urged personnel to maintain the facilities and stay professional.
Commodore Tasiu said the projects were initiated specifically to boost welfare, morale, and efficiency. He noted that decent accommodation and improved facilities help strengthen discipline and operational effectiveness among officers securing Nigeria’s maritime environment.
“These projects happened because of deliberate support, clear vision, and the belief that personnel protecting the nation’s waters deserve decent living conditions,” he said.
He called on other corporate organisations to support similar welfare and infrastructure projects for security agencies, and assured that the new facilities would be properly maintained and used.
Captain Warredi Enisuoh, Executive Director, Operations and Technical at Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, described support for the armed forces as a patriotic responsibility.
He praised the Navy’s professionalism in protecting the country’s waterways and oil assets, and said the projects were designed to give personnel more comfort while carrying out tough assignments at sea.
As part of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebrations, NNS Delta also donated educational materials to pupils of Ogiame Primary School in Warri. The donation included 1,200 books, 350 school bags, whiteboards, markers, footballs, and other learning materials.
The outreach, tagged _Educational Rhapsody_, featured career talks and interactive sessions between naval officers and the pupils. Commodore T3asiu encouraged the students to stay disciplined, focused, and committed to their goals.
Activities marking the 70th anniversary at NNS Delta ended with a rating party on Monday evening.
