Students of Enitonna High School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, received more than just educational materials on Monday, 25 May 2026, as the Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri and Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri collaborated on a community outreach programme to mark the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
The outreach featured the distribution of writing materials and educational supplies, health talks on personal hygiene and preventive healthcare, as well as mentorship and career guidance sessions aimed at encouraging academic excellence, discipline and responsible living among students.
Speaking during the programme, the Commandant of Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri, Navy Captain Edna Omezurike, appreciated the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas, for supporting community-oriented initiatives as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
Omezurike noted that the outreach reflects the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to strengthening relations with host communities and contributing to national development through education and humanitarian support.
She also commended the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command for his guidance and support towards the successful execution of the programme.
According to her, education and mentorship remain critical tools for shaping responsible citizens and promoting national growth and socio-economic development.
Also speaking, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri, Navy Captain Elendu, stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, personal hygiene and health education among children and youths.

“Teaching students about personal hygiene and preventive healthcare helps build a healthier, more productive generation,” he said.
The senior Officer reiterated that the Nigerian Navy’s responsibilities extend beyond maritime security and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity, noting that investments in education, healthcare and youth empowerment remain vital to national cohesion and sustainable community development.
The outreach programme also strengthened the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Navy and members of the host community by promoting trust, social responsibility and inclusive community engagement.
The Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri and Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri further reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining collaborative programmes aimed at promoting education, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment and community development in line with the vision of the Nigerian Navy.
