The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has a new Acting Controller,Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko,who has pledged to promote transparency, professionalism, and seamless trade facilitation at the Command.
Miko officially assumed office following the redeployment of Comptroller Joseph Anani to the Tin Can Island Port Command. The handover ceremony was attended by officers of the Service, stakeholders, and representatives of sister agencies operating within the port.
Speaking shortly after taking over leadership of the Command, Miko assured officers and stakeholders of his commitment to teamwork, due process, and efficient service delivery.
According to him, the Command under his leadership will continue to prioritise integrity, faster cargo clearance, and an enabling environment for legitimate trade.
“I am not here simply to occupy an office. I am here to work together with officers, stakeholders, and partner agencies to move the Command forward,” Miko said.
He described PTML as one of the most organised Commands in the Nigeria Customs Service and promised to build on the achievements already recorded by his predecessor.
The new Acting Controller also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies operating within the port environment, noting that effective inter-agency cooperation remains critical to national security, revenue generation, and seamless port operations.
Miko further assured stakeholders that his administration would maintain an open-door policy that encourages transparency, accessibility, fairness, and constructive engagement.
He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to uphold the Service’s policy direction anchored on innovation, consolidation, and collaboration.
In his remarks, Comptroller Anani described his eight-month stay at PTML Command as both rewarding and impactful, noting that the Command recorded significant operational improvements during the period.
He disclosed that the Command generated over ₦181 billion in revenue before his redeployment, while also consolidating the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.
According to Anani, the platform was introduced by his predecessor, while his administration focused on stabilising the system and addressing some of the initial operational challenges associated with its rollout.
“When I assumed office, I came with a clear mandate to help stabilise the Command during its transition into a modernised operational system,” he stated.
“With the support of officers, sister agencies, and stakeholders, we were able to improve the system and take operations to the next level.”
Anani also highlighted some of the enforcement successes recorded during his tenure, including the interception and handover of illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition to relevant government agencies such as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
He further noted that the Command introduced a one-hour clearance process for compliant vehicle imports, a development he said improved trade efficiency and encouraged voluntary compliance among port users.
Anani thanked Officers, stakeholders, and partner agencies for their support throughout his tenure, adding that the achievements recorded at the Command were made possible through teamwork, dedication, and collective commitment to service delivery.
