A devastating incident occurred on the early hours of Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, when a Toyota Camry saloon car veered off the 3rd Mainland Bridge, inward Iyana Iworo, and plunged into the Lagos Lagoon.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Search and Rescue (SAR) team swiftly responded to the distress call, leading to the recovery of two bodies.
According to the statement signed by the Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Waterways Authority on Wednesday, the vehicle had two occupants: a 25-35-year-old female, identified as Aisha, and a 31-year-old male, Chado Daniel Danladi, residing at 7 Oremeta Street, Off Opebi Link Bridge, Ikeja.
The female victim’s body was initially recovered by local divers and handed over to her family. An extended SAR operation led to the recovery of the second victim’s body, which has been delivered to his family.

The incident highlights the effectiveness of Lagos State’s coordinated emergency response system, which involves various agencies, including LASWA, Marine Police, LASEMA, and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). Local fishermen also played a crucial role in the recovery efforts.
