Oluyinka Onigbinde, Assistant Editor of Shipping Position Daily, has emerged as the new President of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) after defeating veteran maritime journalist, Reverend John Iwori, in a closely contested election.

The election was held during the association’s elective congress and attracted active participation from members.

Onigbinde secured 20 votes to defeat Iwori, who polled 13 votes out of the 33 votes cast.

The election also produced other members of the new executive council expected to oversee the affairs of MARAN for the next tenure.

Obasi Sylvanus emerged unopposed as Vice President, while Fabian Anawo was elected General Secretary.

Ayanfeoluwa Providence emerged as the Public Relations Officer (PRO), while Ruth Umunna was elected Treasurer. Ambrose Okehi emerged unopposed as Financial Secretary.

Amina Ojelabi was elected Assistant General Secretary.
