*** As Kwankwaso and Kwankwasiya Movement Expelled from NNPP
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clarified that Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya movement’s plan to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not involve the party.
According to the NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Ogini Olaposi, Kwankwaso’s decision to join the APC is a personal move that does not represent the NNPP.
Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and the 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, announced on Saturday that he and his supporters are ready to join the APC.
He warned that his political movement will not be used to win elections only to be abandoned afterwards.
This development has sparked reactions from the NNPP, with Olaposi stating that Kwankwaso’s declaration is a confirmation that he and his movement are no longer part of the party.
The NNPP scribe noted that the party will no longer resist Kwankwaso’s actions after he was expelled for anti-party activities.
The party is now focused on putting its house in order ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the crisis and litigations brought by Kwankwaso and his supporters.
Olaposi emphasized that any potential alliance with the APC or any other party will be decided by all members of the NNPP.
Olaposi also revealed that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NNPP and Kwankwasiya ended after the 2023 presidential election.
He alleged that Kwankwaso and his supporters attempted to hijack the party, leading to the crisis that has now been resolved. The NNPP is now moving forward, with Olaposi expressing relief that the party is free from Kwankwaso’s influence.
According to Olaposi, Kwankwaso’s political value has decreased significantly after he betrayed the NNPP, which provided him with a free platform for his presidential ambition. Many strategic members of the Kwankwasiya movement have since left him to join the APC, further weakening his political base. Olaposi advised Nigerians to be cautious when negotiating with Kwankwaso and his group, as they are no longer part of the NNPP.
The NNPP chieftain also expressed concern about the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in uploading the party’s new executive after a court-ordered convention that produced the Dr. Agbo Major-led executive. Olaposi emphasized that the party is eager to move forward and participate in future elections.
