By Sandra Chukwunyere

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) extends warm felicitations to all Nigerians on this momentous occasion of Democracy Day
In a statement sent to Newspoint247online.com.ng and  signed by the founder, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam,
” it reads As we celebrate years of uninterrupted democracy, we acknowledge the progress made so far while recognizing that there’s still much work to be done.
“We note that elections and political differences can temporarily divide us, but it’s essential to unite in the interest of the people to reap the full benefits of democracy. We call on all well-meaning lovers of democracy to lay down their political differences and embrace unity and responsible partnership with the government.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we must reflect on our journey so far and explore ways to tap into our rich cultural, ethnic, and religious diversities. We pray for an end to insecurity, which has led to the loss of innocent lives, and call on the government to do more to secure the lives and properties of tax-paying citizens.
“The government must be decisive in halting the senseless killings in various parts of Nigeria, including Plateau, Benue, Niger, Zamfara, Borno, and others, and restore sanity to enable economic activities to thrive. We believe it’s time for the government to activate all state coercive forces to stop elements and sponsors of insecurity.
“We also note that the power to associate is sacred and enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. The ongoing political realignments are not an attempt to create a one-party state but rather a manifestation of Nigerians’ democratic right to move across political parties. Political parties must do more to plug holes created by the exit of members.
“As we approach 2027, we advise political elites to engage directly with the government or submit memos on the best ways to reposition Nigeria rather than playing to the gallery through media interventions. We commend the President and his council of ministers for showing strong leadership and urge them to tackle insecurity and corruption.
“The NNPP believes it’s time for Nigerians to participate fully in building a new Nigeria. We call for total adherence to the principles of the rule of law, which is the hub of democracy. All tiers of government and Nigerians must ensure the survival of our democracy by adhering strictly to the rule of law and constitutionality.
“We pledge our support for the government and urge Nigerians to join hands in building a better future. Yes, we can do it through participation and mass movement against societal evils. We keep this conversation going forward, and we wish everyone a Happy Democracy Day” it concluded.
