The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL), has commenced a specialised training programme aimed at preparing young Nigerians for careers in supply base operations within the oil and gas industry.
The 12-month Human Capacity Development programme was formally inaugurated on Tuesday at the LADOL Free Zone in Apapa, Lagos. Under the initiative, 12 successful candidates will undergo intensive training that combines classroom learning with practical industry experience in logistics, procurement, trade, supply chain management and other key support services.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Board’s General Manager, Human Capacity Development, Ms. Alexis Emelle, described the programme as a strategic effort to build the next generation of industry professionals.
She noted that the initiative underscores NCDMB’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. According to her, the programme is designed not only to impart technical knowledge but also to prepare participants for long-term success in the industry.
Emelle urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity, emphasising the importance of discipline, commitment and continuous learning throughout the training period.
“The industry requires professionals who are adaptable, dependable and capable of delivering solutions. Every lesson and practical assignment should be seen as an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally,” she said.
Also speaking, the Nigerian Content Manager of SNEPCo, Mr. Obiajulu Onochie, highlighted the importance of human capital development in sustaining growth and operational excellence within the energy sector.
He commended NCDMB for its consistent investment in capacity building and noted that SNEPCo remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen local talent and enhance industry competitiveness.
Onochie disclosed that the company had sponsored several training programmes this year in specialised areas, including cybersecurity, blockchain architecture, NEBOSH certification and subsea operations, stressing that investment in people remains critical to the future of the industry.
A representative of LADOL reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Nigerian Content agenda, noting that local content policies have played a significant role in the organisation’s growth and success.
The representative stated that LADOL would continue to support programmes that equip young Nigerians with the skills and experience required to thrive in the oil and gas sector.
The 12 participants were selected through a rigorous two-stage screening process and will receive practical exposure aimed at strengthening indigenous capacity in supply base operations.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Mr. Olaniye Sodiq expressed gratitude to NCDMB, SNEPCo, LADOL and the programme partners for providing the opportunity.
He assured the organisers that the beneficiaries would remain dedicated to the programme and apply the knowledge gained towards contributing meaningfully to the growth of the industry.
The initiative forms part of NCDMB’s broader efforts to deepen Nigerian Content, bridge industry skills gaps and create sustainable career opportunities for young Nigerians in the energy sector.
