The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle (MON), has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his decisive action in ensuring the prompt payment of military salaries and pensions. In a statement issued on Thursday, 5th December 2024, Dr. Matawalle expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired military personnel.

Dr. Matawalle confirmed that alerts for a three-month salary increase, along with arrears, have already begun to reach military personnel. Additionally, funds for the payment of pensions and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel were released, marking another significant step in addressing the financial concerns of military retirees.

The Minister applauded President Tinubu’s focus on improving the welfare of those who have dedicated their lives to serving Nigeria, describing the initiative as a reflection of the President’s dedication to enhancing their living standards. He also acknowledged the vital role played by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, whose commitment was instrumental in facilitating these payments.

Dr. Matawalle reassured the military that President Tinubu remains steadfast in his efforts to boost morale and provide the necessary support to combat insecurity in Nigeria. “Despite initial setbacks, rest assured that Mr. President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” the Minister stated.

He also highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian military in combating insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, emphasizing their indispensable contributions to national security.

In his message to military officers and personnel, Dr. Matawalle reaffirmed the government’s unwavering resolve to eradicate insecurity across the nation, leveraging the resilience and readiness of the armed forces.

The announcement has been widely regarded as a morale booster for the Nigerian military, reflecting the Tinubu administration’s commitment to supporting those who defend the nation.
