The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched the pilot phase of its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker at the PTML Area Command, reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation and improved administrative efficiency.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, said the initiative forms part of the Service’s broader modernisation programme designed to leverage technology for faster, more transparent and efficient administration of Customs operations.
Represented at the launch by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCC Oluyomi Adebakin, the CGC described the deployment of the MIS File Tracker as another milestone in the Service’s ongoing efforts to deploy digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency, improve transparency and facilitate seamless trade.
According to Adebakin, the Customs Service remains committed to using technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery. She noted that the introduction of the MIS File Tracker further demonstrates the Service’s resolve to embrace innovation and align its operations with global best practices.
She explained that the MIS is an enterprise-wide platform designed to manage Customs administrative processes through a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, allowing officers to access a unified database across departments.
The platform, she said, will support key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty roster management, internal staff orders and nominal rolls, while also providing a feedback mechanism for users to recommend improvements and additional features.
Adebakin added that the system is expected to streamline internal workflows, reduce reliance on manual processes and promote data-driven decision-making across the Nigeria Customs Service.
She noted that the choice of PTML Area Command for the pilot phase reflects the command’s track record in driving Customs modernisation initiatives. The command has previously served as the testing ground for major digital projects, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s readiness to ensure the successful implementation of the new system.
He said the command has consistently embraced technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management and remains committed to supporting reforms that enhance efficiency.
Miko thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs for the confidence reposed in the command, assuring that officers would work diligently to ensure the success of the MIS File Tracker from the pilot stage through full implementation.
He also disclosed that the command is working to reduce the current two-hour cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargo to one hour, describing the target as part of ongoing efforts to improve trade facilitation and service delivery.
The Acting Controller described the deployment of the MIS File Tracker as another bold step in positioning the Nigeria Customs Service among Africa’s leading Customs administrations, stressing that PTML Area Command would justify the confidence placed in it by delivering a successful rollout of the new digital platform.
