The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has released N7.61 billion to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for the payment of retirement benefits to 4,237 retired officers, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of former personnel.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, announced the development during an interactive session with retired officers on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. He said the funds had already been transferred to the PFAs for onward payment into the retirees’ Retirement Savings Accounts.

According to the breakdown presented at the meeting, Access-ARM Pension Managers will pay 1,223 retirees, while Premium Pension has 2,268 beneficiaries. Others include Leadway Pensions (403), TrustFund Pensions (156), FCMB Pensions (144), Veritas Glanvills Pensions (28), Norrenberger Pensions (11) and Fidelity Pension Managers (4), bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 4,237.

Speaking during the engagement, Adeniyi stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to the welfare of both serving and retired officers, noting that those who dedicated years of service to the nation deserve continued support after retirement.

He said the Service must remain financially strong to meet its obligations and ensure that retirees receive the benefits they have earned.

The Comptroller-General explained that the meeting was convened to promote open communication between the Customs management and retirees, address concerns directly and discourage the spread of misinformation.

“I acknowledge your concerns and suggestions. This dialogue is intended to foster better understanding and strengthen the relationship between the Service and its retired personnel,” Adeniyi said.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, DCG Tijjani Abe, alongside other members of the Customs Management Team. They assured the retirees that issues raised during the dialogue would receive due consideration at the Board and Management levels.

The retirees commended the Comptroller-General and the management for creating a platform for direct engagement, describing the initiative as a positive step toward strengthening trust and improving communication. They also appealed for such interactions to be held regularly

The latest pension disbursement comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to strengthen pension administration through ongoing reviews of relevant provisions of the Pension Reform Act 2014, with the aim of improving the welfare of pensioners in line with constitutional provisions.
