The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Western Marine Command in Apapa, Lagos, saying no life was lost and no injury was recorded.
The fire occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, after it was detected in some offices within the Command.
According to a statement signed by Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, Deputy Superintendent of Customs and Acting Customs Public Relations Officer for the Western Marine Command, officers on duty immediately activated emergency response procedures and worked to contain the fire.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
The Command said a preliminary assessment showed that some property and office equipment were affected, while thick smoke was initially seen coming from the newly constructed conference hall.
It, however, confirmed that no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident.
The Command commended its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response in containing the fire.
It also assured members of the public and stakeholders that its core operations remain unaffected and are continuing normally.
The Command has constituted a committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its personnel and infrastructure while maintaining safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
