The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network has applauded the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for its ongoing reforms aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The network said the reforms were helping to improve transparency in the administration and enforcement of maritime regulations, adding that more efficient processes could strengthen confidence among operators and other stakeholders.
The commendation comes as NIMASA steps up efforts to improve transparency in maritime enforcement operations, including plans to introduce body cameras for enforcement officers who board vessels.
Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said the initiative would provide greater transparency in interactions between enforcement personnel and vessel operators, while promoting more efficient and accountable operations.

The NIMASA Director General attributed the progress recorded under the agency’s reforms to the support of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, led by the Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON.
Mobereola also advocated the replication of successful reforms across maritime administrations in the region, saying that improved transparency could support trade and investment while strengthening regional competitiveness.
He said NIMASA remained committed to developing systems and institutional practices that would make transparency and integrity an integral part of maritime business in Nigeria.
The reforms are aimed at strengthening accountability, improving regulatory processes and creating a more transparent operating environment for businesses and other stakeholders in the maritime sector.
