The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a leadership seminar for its senior officers, with a strong emphasis on professionalism, teamwork, accountability and improved service delivery.

The seminar, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, was designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of officers and equip them with the skills needed to effectively manage people and responsibilities in line with the broader objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Abdullahi Abubakar, the programme was organised in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, FNIPR, PSC+, to build a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.

Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller of PTML Command, DC Nura Ibrahim Miko, stressed the importance of effective leadership in achieving the core mandates of the Customs Service, particularly revenue generation, trade facilitation and the suppression of smuggling.

Miko said the Command would continue to support initiatives that promote the welfare, health and productivity of officers. He also highlighted the recently introduced Work-Life Balance Initiative as part of efforts to create a healthier and more productive working environment.

The seminar featured sessions on strategic leadership, effective communication, decision-making, conflict management and ethical conduct.

Miko delivered the first lecture, titled “Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence,” where he highlighted the need for leaders and followers to work together towards achieving common goals.

He commended the participants for their active participation and challenged them to put the knowledge gained during the seminar into practice by improving their performance and contributing meaningfully to the success of the Command.

The Acting Area Controller also reassured stakeholders and members of the trading community of PTML Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and the promotion of an environment that supports ease of doing business.

Participants at the seminar were drawn from the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificates of Excellence to two officers recognised for their dedication and outstanding service.

The recipients were Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse, Officer-in-Charge of Mile 2 Gate, and Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim, Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Unit.

While presenting the certificates, Miko encouraged other officers to remain committed to their duties, noting that the Command has mechanisms for identifying and rewarding diligence, selflessness and efficient service delivery.

He urged officers to continue giving their best in the service of the country, stressing that excellence and commitment to duty would not go unnoticed.
