The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) reminded the public, particularly those who attended Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika‘s concert at Ilashe Beach yesterday, January 11, 2026, that night-time travel on Lagos inland waterways remains strictly prohibited.
According to a statement signed by Management of the agency, this restriction applies to both commercial and private boat operations to ensure everyone’s safety.

The authority cited poor visibility and navigational hazards as reasons for limiting boat operations to daylight hours. LASWA had urged concert-goers to plan their trips accordingly and arrive at their destinations before nightfall.
Boat operators are required to adhere to authorized operating hours and ensure all passengers wear life jackets at all times. LASWA, along with the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and other safety agencies, conducted active patrols to enforce the night travel ban, and offenders will face legal consequences.
The night travel ban is aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state’s waterways. LASWA emphasizes that safety on the waterways is a shared responsibility and encourages the public to comply with regulations.
LASWA reiterates its commitment to providing secure, efficient, and well-regulated water transport for all Lagos residents and visitors.
The authority’s enforcement of the night travel ban is part of its efforts to minimize risks and ensure safety on Lagos waterways.
LASWA will continue to work with other agencies to promote water safety and regulate water transport in the state.
