Benin City – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Theophilus Egbodion as the pioneer chairman of the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
The appointment, which takes effect from December 2024, was confirmed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government.
Egbodion, in his response, described the appointment as a call to service and expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity. He assured that he would serve with compassion and prioritize the needs of persons living with disabilities.
Born in 1978 in Uromi, Edo State, Egbodion has demonstrated excellence despite being physically challenged. He attended Federal Government College, Warri, before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in 2006.
His career in public service began with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jos, Plateau State, in 2007. He later served as Special Adviser to the Chairman of Esan North East Local Government.
In 2011, he joined Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) as a Data Processing Officer, where he steadily rose through the ranks due to his dedication and expertise.
Egbodion’s appointment aligns with the Edo State Persons Living with Disability Law, enacted in July 2022, which seeks to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and promote their full integration into society.
His leadership is expected to drive inclusive policies and improve the welfare of persons with disabilities in Edo State.
