The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, has briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the significant progress achieved by the Nigerian Military in combating insecurity in Sokoto State and the wider North-West region.

During the meeting, Dr. Matawalle lauded the dedication and professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces, emphasizing their pivotal role in safeguarding the nation. “They will continue to play a critical role in ensuring the security of our country,” the Minister noted. He praised President Tinubu’s administration for its unwavering commitment to providing the military with the necessary resources to maintain operational efficiency in addressing security threats in the region.

Dr. Matawalle’s operational tour of Sokoto State aimed to restore public confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to restore peace and security. His visit, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff and other military leaders, led to the elimination of key bandit leaders, including Halilu Buzu Sububu, signaling the government’s determination to eradicate banditry and terrorism.

The Minister urged residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to ensure the success of ongoing operations.

President Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the briefing, commending the Minister and troops for their renewed efforts to eradicate insecurity in the North-West and across Nigeria.

Anti-Corruption Group Hosts Seminar to Safeguard Nigeria’s National Single Window The Media Anti-Corruption Initiatives (MACI), in partnership with Hynek Media, will host a landmark one-day seminar aimed at strengthening the Federal Government’s flagship trade facilitation project, the National Single Window (NSW). The event is cheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa GRA, Lagos, the seminar will carry the theme “National Single Window: Strategies to Avert Failure” and will convene policymakers, regulators, private sector leaders, and civil society actors to develop tamper-proof strategies for the project’s effective implementation. The NSW will seek to centralize import, export, and transit documentation, streamline processes, reduce duplication, and enhance transparency. Officials estimate the initiative could cut transaction costs by up to 25% while boosting government revenue by as much as 20%. Despite these potential benefits, experts warn that Nigeria’s history of reform failures highlights the need for strong safeguards to ensure success. According to a statement signed by Funso Olojo, Secretary of MACI, and Rev. John Iwori, Media/Publicity, the seminar will be chaired by Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of the Customs Consultative Committee, with Hon. Kingsley Igwe, Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), serving as Co-Chairman. Other notable participants will include: Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (Chief Guest of Honour) Mr. Tola Fakolade, Director, National Single Window (Special Guest of Honour) Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, MD, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Dr. Dayo Mobereola, DG, NIMASA Dr. Pius Akutah MON, ES, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) Alhaji Umar Yusuf Girei, Acting MD, NIWA Mrs. Adesuwa Ladoja, MD, Lagos Free Trade Zone Key sub-themes will focus on: Transparency in the Single Window Project as a Key to Sustainability Inter-Agency Rival-Free Collaboration for NSW Success The seminar will also feature insights from customs controllers, freight forwarders’ associations, indigenous terminal operators, and regulators, including perspectives on the Lagos Free Zone Green Channel initiative. Organizers say the event presents a rare opportunity to align government agencies, private operators, and civil society around a shared vision for a seamless trade ecosystem.
