The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, has called for stronger collaboration among terminal operators, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to further improve cargo clearance and boost revenue generation at the port.
Miko made the call during his maiden visit to the Grimaldi/PTML Terminal in Lagos, where he commended the management of PTML and Grimaldi for their sustained investments in infrastructure and operational efficiency, describing the terminal as Nigeria’s leading Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) facility.
He noted that the terminal currently records an average clearance time of about two hours for compliant RoRo imports, describing the achievement as a testament to the effectiveness of existing processes.
However, he challenged stakeholders to work together towards achieving even faster cargo processing while maintaining high standards of compliance and operational integrity.
According to Miko, collaboration among key players in the port value chain remains essential to enhancing trade facilitation, improving service delivery, and strengthening the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
The Customs Area Controller also pledged to run an open-door and inclusive administration, assuring stakeholders that their contributions and feedback would play a vital role in achieving the Command’s goals.
Responding, the General Manager of PTML, Tunde Keshinro, reaffirmed the terminal’s commitment to supporting the Customs Command and sustaining the operational efficiency that has made the facility a preferred gateway for RoRo cargo.
As part of his familiarisation tour, Miko also engaged with representatives of security agencies, freight forwarding associations, and licensed customs agents. During the meetings, he reiterated the Command’s commitment to deepening stakeholder engagement, enhancing trade facilitation, and improving revenue collection through stronger partnerships and cooperation.
