The organisers of the Annual Maritime Students and Youth (AMSAY) Conference have announced that shipowner and Chairman of Starzs Investment Company Limited, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, will chair¦ the 10th anniversary edition of the event.
The conference is scheduled to hold in Lagos on May 27, 2026, and is expected to attract participants from across Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Now in its tenth year, the AMSAY Conference has grown into a regular platform for engaging students and young professionals interested in the maritime industry.
Over time, the event has drawn the attention of industry stakeholders, regulators, and policymakers, creating a space for discussions around career development, industry trends, and opportunities within the sector.
Ogbeifun’s role as chairman of this year’s edition comes ten years after he served in the same capacity at the maiden conference in 2016.
His return, according to the organisers, reflects both continuity and the desire to reconnect with the foundation on which the conference was built.
Speaking on the development, the Convener and Chief Executive Officer of Platforms Communications, Sylvanus Obasi, said the conference has evolved significantly since it was first introduced.
He explained that a number of initiatives that are now closely associated with AMSAY were not part of the original plan but were introduced in response to emerging needs within the sector.
Among these are the Best Graduating Maritime Students Awards (BEGMASA), the Fola Ojutalayo Annual Maritime Speech-Making Competition (FOAMSC), and the Maritime Career Mentoring Programme (M-CAMP).
Obasi noted that these initiatives have, over the years, contributed to youth development and helped build capacity among aspiring maritime professionals.

He added that bringing Ogbeifun back as chairman provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far while also drawing from his experience as the conference marks a decade.
