Comptroller Joy Edeldouk, the newly appointed Customs Area Controller of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT), has vowed to collaborate with stakeholders and freight forwarders to rejuvenate the terminal’s underperforming sections. This commitment was made during her inaugural address as she assumed her new role on Friday.

Highlighting her priorities, Comptroller Edeldouk emphasized the importance of revenue generation, which she identified as the Key Performance Index (KPI) for Customs officers. She expressed the necessity of working together to revitalize the terminal, thereby enhancing the command’s revenue streams.

“Our administration will focus on three pillars: Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation,” Comptroller Edeldouk stated. She pledged to build on the existing achievements of the command, engage with stakeholders for improvements, and introduce new innovations to reach higher levels of performance.

Moreover, Comptroller Edeldouk promised to implement a 48-hour cargo clearance time, asserting that efficient and accessible service is crucial. “We must provide 48-hour service delivery. It is possible if we are friendly and accessible,” she remarked.

She called for an open-door policy, inviting suggestions to further the command’s progress. “I implore you to join hands with me to take the command to the next level. Your suggestions on how to move forward are highly welcome,” she added.

The outgoing Controller, now Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) M. M. Tikey-Gyado, praised the support from officers and stakeholders during her tenure. She reported significant achievements, including a 75% increase in revenue, generating N36.6 billion from January to May 2024. ACG Tikey-Gyado highlighted the revitalization of the Cestac terminal and the transformation of KLT into an Export Processing Terminal (EPT), which facilitated the export of 869 containers.

ACG Tikey-Gyado attributed these successes to the dedication of the officers and expressed gratitude for their cooperation. “The resilience of our officers has been crucial. I appreciate their efforts despite the challenges,” she said.

As Comptroller Edeldouk steps into her new role, the focus remains on fostering collaboration, implementing innovative solutions, and enhancing operational efficiency to elevate KLT’s performance and contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth.
