The Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved a remarkable feat in revenue collection, generating a staggering sum of over 28 billion naira for the months of January and February 2024. This milestone surpasses the command’s monthly revenue target, marking a significant achievement for the agency.
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf during a briefing in Lagos attributed this success to the collective efforts and compliance from both officers and stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of sustaining this momentum to ensure continued success in revenue generation.
The CAC noted tha the command was able to generate N28,997,303,642 for the months of January and February 2024. According to Yusuf, in January 2024 alone, the MM Airport Command generated a total revenue of N14,754,044,196, exceeding the monthly target by 23.1%.
Similarly, in February 2024, the command collected a total revenue of N14,243,259,448 surpassing the monthly target by 18%.
The expected target for January and February 2024 was N23,965,232,280.32. However, the actual revenue generated amounted to N28,997,303,644, representing a remarkable increase of N5,032,071,435.68 equivalent to a 20% increase over the expected target.
In addition to revenue generation, the command conducted various anti-smuggling activities, leading to the interception of 50 pieces of 9mm live ammunitions and the discovery of 1,164kg of Sea Cucumbers and 58 Kg of Donkey Genitals. He also noted that two suspects were arrested and detained pending further investigation.
Comptroller Yusuf commended the officers and men of the command and other sister agencies for their cooperation in achieving these milestones. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to maximize revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade, and suppress smuggling activities in line with the objectives of the Federal Government.
Furthermore, Comptroller Yusuf reiterated his office’s openness to dialogue and suggestions for improving the delivery of Nigeria Customs Service and achieving federal government objectives. He concluded by applauding the excellent relationship between Customs and other agencies, emphasizing its importance in achieving government goals
