The new Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos command, Kehinde Hamzat, has tasked officers and members of the public on discipline.
Hamzat made the call in an interview with newsmen after taking over the parade in the command on Monday.
He noted that the FRSC, as a body, would key into the Corps Marshal’s policy thrust.
Hazmat reiterated that the corps would ensure discipline among its personnel and the general road users.

“One of those things talked about by the corps marshall is on rejigging and repositioning the operational activities in the country and I must ensure I practice such, even in the state.
“We are leveraging technology and that is why we have the FRSC App online — for people to check their driver’s license and report anything.
“Also, the welfare of my staff is paramount, we will use the carrot and stick approach to achieve what we need to achieve,” he said.
The sector Commander that FRSC would collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure discipline.
He said collaboration with sister agencies such as police, army, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence, amongst others, could not be overemphasised.
“We will be relating with state agencies because it is one of the things we give birth to. When you talk of Nigerian Road Safety Strategy, you talk about ensuring that every state of the federation has their own traffic agencies that can run.
“We will work with them to ensure that Lagos is a place to live.
“For the locals and members of the public, we are going to do enlightenment programme and town hall meetings so that people will be carried along in road safety activities,” he said.
Hamzat urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules as the festive period is fast approaching.
“For the motorists, what you have not achieved from January to now, is it between October and December that you will have it? So, they should know that their family loves them.
“We will not allow them to die in case they decide to. The people they leave behind will not be liabilities to the members of the public.
“For example, someone who is supposed to be trained to become someone great in life, the life of the benefactor is cut short, the person will become a menace to the society.
“They should not drive recklessly, their family loves them, they should drive as if it’s a borrowed vehicle, drive carefully,” he said.
He said that FRSC would use both the state and federal laws to enforce law and order.
Hamzat said that it was not going to be business as usual as FRSC would use the necessary sticks, and would give the carrot when necessary.
During the parade, the sector commander urged the unit commanders to always be on their toes so that the command would achieve its goals.
“The only thing that has brought us together is this job, do not say that you know me before and will not do your duties.
“I appreciate you on the laudable job done and needs your cooperation to achieve the goals set.
“FRSC is looking at a situation to ensure that crashes result to zero death and we need to work together to achieve this,” he said.
