President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at the State House in Abuja, where they discussed the development and future of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NIMASA Director-General to brief the President on developments within the agency over the past two years, including progress recorded and challenges affecting the growth of the maritime industry.
Mobereola updated the President on NIMASA’s activities and efforts to strengthen maritime administration, improve regulatory oversight and enhance the sector’s contribution to the Nigerian economy.
During the meeting, the NIMASA DG also highlighted some of the developments recorded by the agency in its drive to advance Nigeria’s maritime interests and position the industry for greater economic impact.
Responding to the briefing, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the continuous development of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
The President said the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate step towards giving greater attention to the maritime sector and ensuring that it contributes more significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to him, the maritime industry has a crucial role to play in Nigeria’s economic development, particularly as the country seeks to diversify its economy and maximise the opportunities available within the blue economy.
President Tinubu commended NIMASA for the progress recorded so far and charged Mobereola and his team not to rest on their oars, but to sustain the momentum and continue working towards achieving greater results.
The President’s directive reinforces the Federal Government’s focus on strengthening Nigeria’s maritime industry and unlocking its potential to generate economic opportunities, support job creation and contribute more substantially to national development.
The meeting also underscores NIMASA’s strategic role in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime industry and harness the economic opportunities within the country’s vast maritime resources.
