Ibom Air has taken delivery of a brand-new Airbus A220-300, bringing its total fleet to 10 aircraft as the Akwa Ibom State-owned airline continues its fleet renewal and expansion programme.
The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to the airline at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, on August 26, 2026.
The transfer was completed following the signing of the Transfer of Title (TOT) documents by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr George Uriesi.
According to a statement signed by Aniekan Essienette, Group Manager, Marketing and Communication, Ibom Airlines Limited, the latest delivery represents another important step in the airline’s efforts to modernise its fleet, improve operational efficiency and expand its network.
Speaking after the handover ceremony, Uriesi expressed appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and shareholder of the airline, Pastor Umo Eno, for his continued support and confidence in Ibom Air.
“We are most delighted to receive the third A220-300 into our growing, modern fleet,” Uriesi said, adding that the aircraft would contribute to safer, more passenger-friendly, environmentally responsible and efficient operations.
He said Ibom Air was looking forward to maximising the opportunities provided by the A220 as the airline expands its network and strengthens its position in Nigeria and West Africa.
Also speaking, the Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Canada, Guillaume Chevasson, congratulated Ibom Air on the delivery.
Chevasson said the A220 was well suited to the airline’s fleet modernisation programme because of its operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and performance on domestic and regional routes.
With the latest delivery, Ibom Air’s fleet now consists of seven CRJ900 aircraft and three Airbus A220-300s.
The addition of the new aircraft also reduces the average age of the airline’s fleet, further strengthening its position among Nigeria’s airlines with modern aircraft.
Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2021. The latest delivery is the second A220-300 delivered under that order, while the airline had earlier acquired another A220-300 outright in 2024.
Ibom Airlines Limited is wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The airline focuses on schedule reliability, punctual departures and quality passenger service.
The airline currently operates domestic routes in Nigeria as well as flights to Accra, Ghana, with the new aircraft expected to support further network development.
