The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N111.27 billion in revenue in May 2026, as the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joseph Anani, pledged to strengthen compliance and deepen engagement with stakeholders as part of efforts to enhance the Command’s operational efficiency.

Anani disclosed this during his maiden interaction with maritime journalists at the Command on Wednesday, where he outlined his administration’s priorities and vision for sustaining revenue growth, facilitating legitimate trade and promoting transparency.

According to the Controller, the Command realised a total revenue of N111,270,357,236.25 in May, a performance he attributed to improved compliance levels, enhanced operational efficiency and the dedication of officers and men of the Service.

He expressed optimism that the Command would build on the achievement and work towards surpassing previous records through stronger collaboration with stakeholders and strict adherence to Customs regulations.

Anani identified stakeholder engagement as one of the key pillars of his administration, stressing that meaningful cooperation with industry players remains essential to achieving the Command’s mandate.

He described the media as a strategic partner in Customs operations, noting that journalists play a critical role in shaping public understanding, promoting accountability and encouraging compliance within the system.

According to him, the engagement marked the beginning of a deliberate effort to build stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation between the Command and the media.

The Controller assured journalists that they would be carried along in the Command’s activities, policies, reforms and achievements through timely and transparent dissemination of information.

He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the ongoing modernisation drive of the Nigeria Customs Service through improved systems, streamlined processes and technology-driven solutions aimed at facilitating legitimate trade and improving service delivery.

Anani emphasised that compliance with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 would remain at the heart of the Command’s operations, adding that enforcement activities would be carried out firmly, fairly and professionally.

As part of efforts to strengthen relations with the media, he pledged support for training programmes, workshops and other capacity-building initiatives designed to improve journalists’ understanding of Customs operations and reforms.

While urging media practitioners to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their reportage, the Controller noted that responsible journalism remains vital to preventing misinformation and sustaining public confidence.

Anani also expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment to lead the strategic Command.

He commended the Comptroller-General’s reform-driven leadership and efforts to reposition the Nigeria Customs Service for greater efficiency, innovation and global competitiveness.

Reaffirming his commitment to an open-door administration, Anani called for sustained cooperation among stakeholders, expressing confidence that stronger partnerships would further enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation and national economic growth.
