The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command, has unveiled plans to migrate to a fully paperless system by the second quarter of 2026. The initiative is designed to transform the Command into a one-stop centre for efficient and seamless cargo clearance.

Onyeka outlined the command’s strategic priorities for the year, emphasising innovation and operational efficiency.
According to Onyeka, the transition forms part of the Federal Government’s National Single Window policy, in which the command is expected to play a pivotal role. The reform is intended to harmonise processes and enhance trade facilitation across the maritime sector.
He explained that comprehensive stakeholder engagement and sensitisation programmes would precede the rollout. This, he said, is to ensure that importers, agents and other members of the trading community are adequately prepared for the new system.
On performance metrics, the controller revealed that the command generated over ₦145.9 billion in January 2026. The figure represents a significant increase of approximately ₦29.5 billion compared with the ₦116.4 billion recorded in January 2025.
Describing the command as a trade enabler, Onyeka reiterated its commitment to simplifying clearance procedures for all actors along the value chain. He assured stakeholders that the forthcoming digital platform would be robust and insulated from network-related disruptions.
The Controller urged importers to provide accurate declarations and complete documentation to facilitate smooth processing. He warned that consignments flagged during scanning would undergo physical examination in the interest of national security.
Onyeka further stressed the importance of palletising goods to accelerate inspection and clearance timelines. He maintained that while the command is focused on efficiency, it will not compromise on security standards under any circumstances.
