The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ in Ikeja has made significant breakthroughs in the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking, with recent seizures totaling over ₦3.3 billion. This impressive haul is a testament to the unit’s unwavering commitment to protecting national revenue and security.

At his inaugural media briefing, Comptroller of the uniit, Gambo Aliyu attributed the success to a combination of intelligence-led patrols, stricter supervision, and a renewed focus on operational discipline.
Comptroller Aliyu emphasized that the unit will continue to prioritize the safety and security of Nigerians while facilitating legitimate trade.
The seizures include a diverse range of contraband, such as 6,954 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 77 bags of foreign sugar, 915 bales of used clothing, and 3,300 jerrycans of vegetable oil.
Additionally, the unit seized 20,700 litres of smuggled petrol, 21 used vehicles, and a 20-foot container of roofing sheets, among other items.
One of the most significant interceptions was the rescue of four live pangolins and the seizure of 1.4 tonnes of synthetic cannabis, dubbed “Ghanaian Loud”. The synthetic cannabis, weighing 2,938 parcels, was formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
NDLEA Deputy Commander, CN Muhammed Kabiru praised the Customs team for their diligence, noting that the seizure would prevent substantial harm to communities.
Kabiru emphasized the importance of collaboration between agencies in combating drug trafficking.
The FOU Zone A also recovered ₦36.8 million through demand notes issued for cargo wrong declaration, reinforcing its role in safeguarding national revenue. Comptroller Aliyu pledged to sustain pressure on smuggling syndicates while facilitating legitimate trade.
In a poignant moment, Comptroller Aliyu paid tribute to an Officer who lost his life in active service, describing him as a dedicated personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of national interests. The unit’s condolences go out to the family and colleagues of the fallen officer.
The Nigeria Customs Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting national revenue and security, urging communities to support its enforcement efforts. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
