As the curtains drew to a close on another eventful year, the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) pulled out all the stops to host a grand finale that would be remembered for a long time to come. The End-of-Year Event, which was held on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Lagos was a resounding success, bringing together the who’s who of the inland waterways and maritime sector.
The event paid a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes of the sector – the barge operators. Their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have been the driving force behind the growth and development of the sector. It was only fitting that they were recognized and appreciated for their contributions.
The event was a night to remember, with prominent barge operating companies, including SIFAX Marine, Diamond Star, JOF, Nurwags, and Tobest, in attendance. The atmosphere was electric, with a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. Executives and members of the Association mingled and celebrated the close of another business year.
In his opening remarks, the President of BOAN, Hon. Olumekun Olubunmi, issued a rallying cry to members to continue striving for excellence despite the operational challenges within the sector. His words were met with thunderous applause, as the audience was inspired by his passion and commitment.
“It is not easy for us to leave all we are doing to come together and celebrate ourselves, but it is important to recognize our impact on the inland waterways and the nation at large. “I am confident that 2026 will be a better year for the barging sector and the maritime industry as a whole,” Hon. Olubunmi said.
The event was a show of unity and strength, with notable industry leaders and stakeholders, including Hajia Bola Muse, in attendance. The presence of representatives from Big Fingers, Tenzik Energy, Osupa Integrated, Acissue Logistics, AIB Unique, and other key organizations was a testament to the growing collaboration and shared commitment within the sector.
The celebration was a fitting tribute to the excellence and professionalism that defines the sector. The event was marked by goodwill messages, networking, and expressions of optimism for the future of inland waterways transportation in Nigeria.
As BOAN looks ahead to 2026, the Association has reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and the promotion of safe, efficient, and sustainable barge operations across Nigeria’s waterways as a viable means of transportation. This commitment is a clear indication of the Association’s dedication to the growth and development of the sector.
