The Port Terminal Multipurpose Ltd. (PTML) says it has spent over two million dollars for building and renovation of two secondary schools in Lagos State.
The Managing Director of PTML Terminal, TinCan Island Port Complex, Ascanio Russo, in a media conference on Monday in Lagos noted that this was done through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
Russo listed the schools as the Amuwo-Odofin Senior Secondary school and Amuwo-Odofin Junior secondary school.
“PTML is a port terminal located in Tincan Island and owned by Grimaldi Group, an Italian logistics group who has been in Nigeria for over 50 years.

“Over the years we developed more terminals located around the Mile 2 area which is over 250,000 square meters and this is a huge off-dock and waterfront off-dock terminal in Nigeria.
“The last development started in 2019 and Lagos State government gave us the concession to use one land which was an addition to the existing school complex.
“This was a major construction work because the areas were littered with mechanic workshop, shanties and very unfortunate because the area was just sitting next to the schools and not really an environment where you will want children to access their school,” he said.
The PTML managing director said that during the development of the terminal, the school activities got support as they had always been their neighbors.
“Since 2020, we really step up our support for the school both as our social responsibility and to show Lagos state government our seriousness and appreciation for giving us the confidence to build this facility.
“We believe strongly in education and in working in a conducive environment and that is why the Grimaldi group supported PTML in providing assistance and support to the school.
“We entered a number of projects since 2020 such as building of 500 meters long interlock access road within the Mile 2 Complex, constructed world class drainage system within the school complex to avoid flooding that was entering before now.
“We have rehabilitated most of the roofs in the school, donated computers, printers and accessories. Last year we donated over 1000 desks and chairs and provided furniture in staff rooms at the Amuwo-Odofin Junior High School.
“We got a new 50KV transformer to supply power to Amuwo-Odofin Senior and Junior school, constructed a standard borehole and installed water treatment plant, constructed two new security house and gates.
“We have been sponsoring for over five years the school inter-house sports activities and in the last three years, the teachers award celebration,” he said.
He added that most importantly, they had constructed and built a 10 class room building and furnished with desk, chairs, computers and LCD television.
Russo pointed out that this was not going to be the end because they believe in long term partnership with the authorities and in supporting their neighbors with conducive environment.
“This is our small contribution to the development and education of these children who possibly tomorrow will come and join our organisation and find employment in the company which is sitting next to their school.
