The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on the Nigerian Air Force to intensify its operational efforts to end banditry and terrorism in the country. Speaking during an operational visit to the Air Component Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina State on Monday, November 18, 2024, the minister emphasized the Air Force’s pivotal role in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
“You are key to this fight, and we must put our acts together to bring an end to this war,” Badaru stated. He commended the Air Force personnel for their heroism, resilience, and commitment, which have become a source of inspiration for Nigerians. He highlighted the positive impact of their efforts, noting that farmers are returning to their fields, schools are reopening, businesses are thriving, and Nigerians can now sleep more peacefully.
The minister reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s confidence in the Air Force’s loyalty, perseverance, and professionalism. He acknowledged the President’s commitment to equipping the military, citing the provision of state-of-the-art aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, including the T129 Attack Helicopter, to bolster their operational capabilities.
“With the induction of these new platforms, I am confident we will make Mr. President and Nigerians proud,” Badaru said. He urged the Air Force to collaborate closely with ground forces and other stakeholders to maximize the impact of these advanced combat tools, adding that his visit marked a critical phase in ongoing operations.

The minister also visited Sokoto, where he inspected the combat readiness of Air Force platforms and toured the new site at Sokoto Airport. This site will serve as the permanent base for the newly established Air Force component in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, praised the minister’s servant leadership style, describing it as a source of motivation. He emphasized that the addition of the T129 Attack Helicopters would significantly enhance the Air Force’s operational capabilities, sending a strong message to those attempting to destabilize the nation.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the military in its mission to secure the country and restore normalcy to affected regions.
