The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has urged residents to download the FRSC App to facilitate safety on the roads. – NAN reported.
The FRSC Lagos State Sector Command, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, made the appeal at the FRSC Ojota Unit Command 2024 Stakeholders Town Hall meeting.
The town hall meeting had the theme: “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Crashes Kill More Passengers then Drivers.”
“The FRSC officers cannot be everywhere, safety is everyone’s responsibility and so, the need to download the app to ensure everyone’s safety.

“The app has a black spot monitor, when the phone is switched on, the phone will prompt one when a black spot is sighted. There is also a speed monitor to alert drivers when speeding.
“With the app, one can report activities when on the road and this helps everyone to be alert and safety conscious.
“I also do not want anyone to die, even when one decides to die, we will not allow it. Out of careless driving, one can die and now leaves the dependants without care.
“These dependants now without any care can be menace to society, causing havoc, so we will ensure that everyone drives safely to ensure lives and properties are not lost,” he said.
The Ojota Unit Commander of FRSC, Chief Route Commander Stella Oladoke, noted that the event was all about demystifying the saying that more people die during ember months.
According to Oladoke, the deaths that occur during the month is because drivers want to have quick turnovers.
“Road safety is everybody’s business because it costs a lot. Passengers are urged to always speak up when the driver is speeding.
“We need to open our hearts to listen to people that will speak to us, this is a town hall meeting to discuss issues that affects us dearly,” she said.
Oladoke disclosed that the unit would deploy officers with breathalyzers to parks to check drivers for alcohol consumption before they embark on any journey.
“These drivers will be tested for alcohol and also their tyres be checked to ensure safety,” she said.
Oba Samuel Alamu, the Onikosi of Ikosi, urged drivers to always adhere to the rules on the road as any mistake could lead to a grievous situation.
Alamu represented by Chief Nathaniel Adeosun, urged unions to always educate their members to be safety consciousness.
Dr Remilekun Durojaiye, Muoka Foam representative, in a presentation urged drivers to ensure adequate sleep before driving to avoid accidents.
“Less sleep makes the driver’s reaction time to be slower and more slower when alcohol is taken. It also decreases ones alertness and affects judgement when driving,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other agencies present in the meeting are the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, FRSC Special Marshals, Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and others.
The agencies present promised to educate members on the need to adhere to safety standards on the road.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency promised to work with the FRSC in sensitising people in the various parks in the state.
