The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has raised serious concerns over the recent visit of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to Abia State.
Following an emergency meeting at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, the NWC issued a statement condemning Kwankwaso’s November 9th meeting with Abia State Governor Alex Otti, calling it a deceptive attempt to interfere with the party’s internal matters.
The NWC reaffirmed that Kwankwaso and his followers had been expelled from the NNPP and disassociated itself from any representations he made during the visit.
The NWC’s statement, signed by National Publicity Secretary Abdulsalam Abdulrazaq, emphasized that Kwankwaso’s visit was allegedly a ploy to challenge a recent Abia State High Court judgment.
This judgment, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the NNPP’s Board of Trustees (BOT) as the primary governing body of the party, was described by the NWC as a necessary legal outcome following Kwankwaso’s divisive influence on the party since joining in 2022.
The NWC accused Kwankwaso of repeatedly fueling internal discord to seize control of the NNPP, allegedly
aiming to turn it into a personal asset.
In its advisory to Governor Otti, the NWC urged the governor not to be drawn into what it termed “the expelled former leader’s schemes” and to maintain a stance of non-interference in the party’s internal disputes.
The NWC highlighted that the court order was binding on INEC as Nigeria’s regulatory authority for political parties, making it the proper avenue for any appeal against the ruling.

The NWC further criticized Kwankwaso’s reported remarks to new police officers in Abia, where he urged them to “Have Fear of God.”
In response, the NWC remarked that if Kwankwaso truly followed this principle, he would not have attempted to destabilize the party or establish dominance over it.
Kwankwaso, who initially joined the NNPP in 2022, has reportedly caused turmoil within the party due to alleged attempts to appropriate the NNPP’s intellectual assets from founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam. The NWC clarified that Dr. Aniebonam, a lifetime BOT member, remains the legitimate leader of the NNPP, a stance upheld by the recent court order.
Abdulrazaq underscored that only INEC, under judicial compulsion, holds the authority to manage the NNPP’s leadership structure.
The NWC concluded that with Kwankwaso’s expulsion and failure to challenge the judgment, his influence within the NNPP has officially come to an end, signaling a period of renewed peace and stability for the party.
The NWC’s position has now been firmly stated: Senator Kwankwaso, along with his supporters, is no longer associated with the NNPP, a status legally reinforced by the recent High Court decision.
