The Lagos State Government has taken another significant step towards transforming water transportation with the official launch of the Project Management Office Delivery (PMOD) consultancy for the Omi Eko Project.
The commencement of the consultancy marks a major milestone in the implementation of the Omi Eko Project, a flagship initiative of the state government aimed at modernising water transportation through improved infrastructure, electric ferry services, and efficient operational systems.
Designed to reshape the state’s waterways, the project is expected to provide safer, faster, and more reliable ferry services while easing pressure on Lagos’ congested road network and promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
Speaking during the launch, the Commissioner described the PMOD consultancy as a critical component of the project’s successful delivery, noting that it will provide the technical expertise, coordination, and oversight required to ensure smooth implementation.
He expressed confidence in the competence of the PMOD team and reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to deliver the project on schedule.
According to him, the Omi Eko Project will not only improve mobility across Lagos waterways but also stimulate economic growth, encourage investment in water transportation, create employment opportunities, and enhance environmental sustainability through the adoption of cleaner transport technologies.
The Commissioner added that the project aligns with the state’s broader vision of developing an integrated, efficient, and sustainable transport system that offers residents more reliable commuting options.
When completed, the Omi Eko Project is expected to redefine water transportation in Lagos, making the waterways a more attractive, efficient, and environmentally sustainable alternative for commuters and businesses alike.
