The Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt successfully hosted its 20th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition on Saturday, 21 February 2026, at the school’s sports complex in Port Harcourt.

The landmark event marked two decades of sustained commitment to sporting excellence and holistic education, attracting students, staff, parents and distinguished guests in a colourful celebration of talent, discipline and teamwork.

The Special Guest of Honour was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral CD Okehie, whose presence underscored the Nigerian Navy’s strong support for youth development through structured education and sports.

In his address, Rear Admiral Okehie ably represented by Executive Officer of NNS PATHFINDER, Capt. M Umar, commended the school management for maintaining high standards in academics, character formation and extracurricular engagement.

He emphasized that competitive sports serve as a strategic platform for building resilience, teamwork and leadership qualities essential for national development.

 

The competition featured an extensive range of sporting activities designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness and healthy rivalry among students. Events contested included football, netball, volleyball and handball, alongside track and field competitions such as relay races, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin.

Sports

Indoor games including chess, scrabble, table tennis and badminton tested intellectual agility, while novelty events such as tug of war, sack race and the three-legged race added excitement to the occasion. The ceremonial march past further showcased discipline, coordination and house spirit.

 

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of household products produced by students under the School Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Programme.

The exhibition reflected the institution’s dedication to practical education, innovation and self-reliance, aligning academic learning with vocational and entrepreneurial skills required in today’s evolving economy.

 

At the conclusion of the keenly contested competitions, Saidu House emerged as the overall winner, having demonstrated outstanding performance and consistency across multiple sporting categories.

Their victory was celebrated amid cheers and applause, symbolizing the spirit of healthy competition that defined the event.
