Arising from the eventful 2024/25 academic session marked by noticeable challenges and progress, this prompted school proprietors nationwide to re-evaluate their strategies for academic excellence and moral development, particularly at the primary and secondary levels.
In Ogbomoso, the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Iresa-Apa, under the leadership of Navy Commander Evelyn Egwurube, demonstrated remarkable improvements in academic performance and extracurricular activities.
This was highlighted by the school’s outstanding achievement at the recently concluded State Future Accountants, Managers & Entrepreneurs (FAME) competition, organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The competition, held at Smith International Baptist Academy, Ogbomoso, featured 13 participating schools, including George Green Secondary School, Maryland Grammar School, Federal Government College Ogbomoso, and Nigerian Navy Secondary School, among others. Contestants were tested in Financial Accounting, Economics, and Mathematics.

Adetona Aminat, an SS2 student representing Nigerian Navy Secondary School, emerged as the overall winner, scoring the highest points. George Green Secondary School and Zion Christian Academy made the second and third positions, respectively. In recognition of her achievement, ICAN awarded Adetona Aminat with medals, while her school received a certificate of honor for its exceptional performance.
Speaking on her success, Aminat attributed her victory to the quality education provided by the school’s teachers and the supportive learning environment fostered by the management.
Commending the organizers, Commander Egwurube emphasized the importance of such competitions in enhancing students’ academic growth and broadening their knowledge. She called on other professional bodies to introduce similar initiatives, as they help students identify areas for improvement to excel in their studies.
“ICAN has a global reputation for grooming financial experts, and this competition provides a great platform for students to develop their skills,” she stated.
She also praised the dedication of teachers at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, describing them as academically sound professionals who create a stress-free learning experience for students.
While celebrating the students’ achievements, Commander Egwurube urged the government to support the school with infrastructural development.
Following her exceptional performance, Adetona Aminat is set to represent the Ogbomoso District at the national level of the quiz competition, where she will compete with top-performing students from other regions.
