The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) is set to host the 3rd edition of the Maritime Annual Lecture (MAMAL) on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in Lagos.

The event, themed “Addressing the Burden of War Risk Insurance on Nigeria’s Maritime Trade,” will bring together key players in Nigeria’s maritime and allied sectors to discuss the pressing issue of war risk insurance premiums on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.
The lecture, scheduled to hold at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos, will feature prominent industry leaders, including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Adegboyega Oyetola, as Special Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees include the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima; and the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Gregory Oaemen.
The keynote address will be delivered by maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu, while the lecture will be chaired by Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chairman of Starzs Investment Ltd.
According to MARAN President, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, the lecture will provide a platform for frank discussions and pragmatic recommendations to ease the financial burden of war risk insurance premiums on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.
The event is expected to attract a high caliber of participants, including major industry regulators, operators, and security stakeholders. Some of the prominent industry leaders expected to attend the lecture include Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, Chairman, Integrated Oil & Gas; and Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, Executive Director (Operations & Technical) of Tantita Security Services.
The Maritime Annual Lecture has become a key platform for constructive dialogue among stakeholders on pressing issues affecting the growth and sustainability of the maritime sector. In its third edition, MAMAL has established itself as a leading event in the Nigerian maritime industry, providing a solution-driven approach to addressing industry challenges.
