The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command played host to a grand event on Tuesday, where Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi , President of Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), presented various empowerment items to deserving Customs wives in the Command.
The items included cash, grinding machines, heavy-duty gas burners with gas cylinders, electronic weaving machines, and additional financial supports. This initiative aimed to provide a means of livelihood for the beneficiaries and support the growth of their families.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Wale Adenuga, commissioned a new set of high-powered solar streetlights in the command, as well as a remodeled Officer’s Mess. This move is expected to improve the overall well-being and working conditions of the officers and their families. The new facilities were designed to provide a comfortable and safe environment for the Officers to work and relax.
The ACG in charge of Zone A, Mohammed Banandede, praised Mrs. Adeniyi’s leadership intelligence in driving the growth and empowerment of Nigerian Customs wives across the federation.
He noted that the wives of Customs Officers play a crucial role in supporting their husbands, which has contributed to the rising service delivery of their husbands in growing trade facilitation and national security. Banandede highlighted the importance of COWA’s initiatives in promoting the well-being of Customs Officers and their families.
COWA’s Green Border Initiative: Planting Seeds for a Greener Future.
Mrs. Adeniyi revealed that COWA’s decision to empower Customs officers’ wives nationwide was to support them while their husbands work to improve national security and the economy through trade facilitation and revenue generation. She disclosed that she had empowered over 250 COWA members in Abuja before visiting the Seme Border C
ommand. This initiative aims to provide a means of livelihood for the beneficiaries and support the growth of their families.
COWA members, in the presence of many attending security agencies officials, conducted a tree planting ceremony as part of their pet project, dubbed the ‘Green Border Sustainability Initiative’. Over 30 Coconut trees were planted, with all the security agencies officials in attendance planting at least one. This initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability and beautify the border area.
The event also saw the official launch of the Customs Care Initiative (CCI), a medical outreach programme of the Service. Several attendees, including locals and media executives, were given medical attention, and many were provided with special medical checks and treatments, including new eye-glasses. The CCI aims to provide medical care to the officers, their families, and the local community.
The event was attended by various security agencies, including the Nigeria Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, NDLEA, Immigration, Civil Defense, and the DSS. All the heads of the agencies presented goodwill messages at the event, highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration and cooperation. This collaboration is essential in promoting national security and trade facilitation.
