The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tincan Island Port Command has announced a record revenue collection of ₦747,079,233,259.91 for the first half of 2025.
This figure reflects a remarkable surplus of ₦171,719,786,247.68 compared to the same period in 2024, marking a substantial growth of approximately 29.85%. The Command achieved 98.03% of its expected collection for the first half of the year.
In a detailed statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, OE Ivara, The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka highlighted that January 2025 alone saw revenue generation of ₦116,412,735,766.23, surpassing January 2024’s collection of ₦88,430,128,122.76. Furthermore, February’s collection reached ₦103,254,292,293.82, slightly exceeding the previous year’s figures.
Onyeka reported that the Customs Command processed a total of 3,450 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) under the newly implemented B’Odogwu clearance system, successfully exiting 2,749 entries. To support the transition to the new system, various online and physical training sessions were conducted for stakeholders.
In addition to the impressive revenue achievements, the command has made significant strides in anti-smuggling efforts. A recent operation led to the seizure of over 1,000 kilograms of illicit drugs, which included 1,735 packets of Cannabis Indica, 97 packets of crystal methamphetamine, and various other narcotics.
Furthermore, inspections uncovered a stash of arms and ammunition hidden in a 1x40ft container, which was transporting four used vehicles. Notable items recovered include a Rugger P345 Pistol, a GEN 4 Austria Pistol, 100 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and several handcuffs and magazines.
To enhance security and ensure proper handling of the seized items, Comptroller Onyeka officially handed them over to the Department of State Services (DSS) alongside the consignee and declarant.
He emphasized that these actions underscore the customs command’s commitment to national security by safeguarding borders against the influx of hard drugs and the proliferation of small arms.
Overall, the NCS remains dedicated to promoting inter-agency collaboration among all security agencies operating within the port, reinforcing their mission to protect the nation and its citizens.
